Wayne Burnett wants a quick start from Dagenham & Redbridge

17 June 2015

Wayne Burnett has urged his Dagenham & Redbridge side to start the 2015/16 campaign well, after the release of the fixtures.

Dagenham face Portsmouth and Leyton Orient in two challenging opening matches, but the 43-year-old boss is determined to get points on the board early.

The Daggers stumbled out of the blocks last term, winning only two of their first nine games, and Burnett wants his side to learn from that experience.

“We spoke about our start not being great last season, I don’t think we’ve won on the opening day for at least four years, we need to try and change that,” he told the club’s official site.

“Our form towards the back-end of the season was Play-Off performances and results. If we can start as we finished then I’ll be pleased.

“We’re away to Portsmouth, so that will be a good game. I looked at our first seven games and they’re quite tough actually. We have Portsmouth and Charlton away then Leyton Orient at home, so we’re playing two of the more favoured teams in the hunt for promotion.

“There has been no trend as to whether if you have a good pre-season you have a good start. As long as the team are physically and mentally right and we prepare how we know we can prepare then we’ll have a good opportunity to get the result we’re looking for.”

A brand new Football League highlights show Football League Tonight will be broadcast in a new primetime position on Channel 5 at 9pm from Saturday 8th August.
