Tony Mowbray believes his Coventry City side have a chance to get their Sky Bet League 1 campaign off to a flying start.Coventry open their season with a home fixture against Wigan Athletic, before heading to the Den to take on Millwall.
It is a challenging start, against two teams who were playing in the Sky Bet Championship last season, but Mowbray is hoping that his charges can show their class.
"It is an exciting start to the season as much as it is a challenging one,” Mowbray told the club’s official site. “There's a lot of expectation on those two sides.
"Like Wigan, I'm sure Millwall will be expecting to bounce straight back to the Championship. It is always a good journey to Millwall and a good atmosphere.
"When a team is relegated, there is often a lot of upheaval in the summer with the players on the bigger salaries leaving so it might be a good time to play them but it can also work the other way."
Coventry finished last season in 17th place in Sky Bet League 1 table, meaning their opening two fixtures could look a daunting prospect.
Mowbray, however, is embracing the challenge and he believes that it will be an excellent opportunity for his team to show how far they have progressed.
“I'm sure the fans are excited by the start as even though you've got to play all the teams anyways, to get the bigger games earlier can add a bit more excitement,” he said.
"It could be a good way of seeing where we are at after pre-season but I think it shows the importance of getting everything right and preparing well.
"We've got to start the season on the right front and there is still a lot of work which needs to be done here.”
