Steven Schumacher is relishing a new challenge after leaving Fleetwood Town to join Teddy Sheringham's Stevenage.
Schumacher becomes the ex-England striker's third signing of the summer, and the midfielder is ready for his first test outside the North West of the country.“It is going to be different, but it is time for a change,” reflected Schumacher, who has achieved promotion from Sky Bet League 2 with Bury and Fleetwood in the past.
“It wasn’t a difficult decision, I spoke to the manager and the chairman and listened to what direction they thought the club is going in, and I was excited and wanted to come on board.
“I will try my best to make the most of it, I am looking forward to coming down here and getting the season started now.”
The 31-year old's decision to join the club was made easier after a conversation from his former Bury team-mate Mark Hughes – a player who he will now link up with again as Boro look to build on last season's impressive sixth-place finish.
“It played a big part in it to be honest because I have known Mark a long time and when he spoke to the manager and chairman and told me about the club, he said that I would like it and that I would enjoy it,” Schumacher added, when speaking to the club's official website.
“He said good things about it and obviously we are both going to be new players coming into the team and we are going to have to settle in quickly and gel, but hopefully we can bring something to the dressing room.”
