Sky Bet League 1 fixture release day preview

15 June 2015

A fresh rivalry will begin this season, with Blackpool and Fleetwood Town set to face each other for the first time in The Football League.

Blackpool arrive in Sky Bet League 1 following their recent relegation, while the Cod Army earned a respectable 10th-placed finish last term in their inaugural campaign in the third tier.

Less than nine miles separate the two Lancashire towns, whose only previous meeting came in the Third Round of the FA Cup in 2012, when the Seasiders romped to a 5-1 win at Highbury.

Switching over to the east coast of the country, this campaign sees the renewal of a derby day in Essex.

Colchester United – who ensured League 1 survival on the final day of the 2014/15 season – will meet up with nearby Southend United, who were promoted after Wembley League 2 Play-Off Final success last month.

The pair last locked horns in 2009/10 when Colchester did the double over their foes, therefore the Shrimpers will be looking out for the dates of these two fixtures so they can try and reclaim bragging rights.

As has been the case for some time in League 1, there are a number of teams from the north west due to battle it out over the course of the season.

Oldham Athletic and Rochdale welcome Wigan Athletic and Bury to the division, with the latter two clubs due to go head-to-head for the first time since the 2001/02 season.

The Yorkshire clubs of Barnsley, Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United will meet again this term, with Scunthorpe United not too much further afield.

The Blades now have former Iron manager Nigel Adkins at the helm, and the 50-year-old will no doubt be keeping an eye out for the date of his return to Glanford Park.

Elsewhere, Burton Albion fans will find out who their first-ever opponents in the third tier are, as the Brewers embark on their maiden voyage in Sky Bet League 1.
