Milton Keynes Dons will be eagerly anticipating their first season in the Sky Bet Championship, where they will face fixtures against the likes of Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United and Hull City.MK Dons were promoted from Sky Bet League 1 last term, after scoring over 100 goals, but even with their attacking prowess they were unable to keep pace with eventual champions Bristol City.
Steve Cotterill’s side were the dominant force in the third tier and they will be aiming to be similarly successful in the Championship over the forthcoming campaign.
Doing so looks a tough test, with The Football League’s top division packed with quality. There are a number of eye-catching fixtures to look forward to, including Yorkshire-based clubs facing the prospect of a series of local matches.
Huddersfield Town, Hull City, Leeds United, Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday are within close quarters of each other, and there are other local rivalries to look forward to as well, with Nottingham Forest and Derby County also set to renew acquaintances.
Forest and Derby met twice last campaign, with the Reds having the better of the fixture – drawing the first clash 1-1 before winning 2-1 at the iPro Stadium.
Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters will also have a close eye on when their sides will meet, while Burnley and Blackburn Rovers have the East Lancashire derby to look forward to, not to mention encounters with the newly-promoted Preston North End.
There will be plenty of fresh faces to look out for in the Championship dugouts, too - Derby, Leeds, Brentford and Wednesday all head into the campaign with new managers in charge.
