Sam Byram believes that Leeds United should be aiming to get promoted from the Sky Bet Championship this season, following the appointment of Uwe Rosler as manager. The Whites finished last campaign in 15th place, but Byram feels that they will be able to improve on that showing considerably with the German boss at the helm.
“As a team, we’ve got to look towards getting promotion. That’s the main focus,” the 21-year-old said to the club’s official site. “From a personal point of view, I want to keep trying to improve and play as many games as I can.
“I haven’t met Uwe Rosler yet so I’m looking forward to getting back to pre-season and trying to impress him throughout the month.
“It shows that the club are making moves in the right direction. They’re bringing people in that have got experience and young players to add to the squad. These are all good things.”
Byram was a regular in Leeds’ starting line-up last season, making 39 league appearances.
He is now determined to keep his place in the first-team and, while many players have been relaxing on holiday, the versatile youngster has already been going through training exercises to ensure that his fitness levels don’t drop.
“I’ve had chance to get away and go on a few holidays – it’s nice to have a breather and get some sun after the season but I’m back now and ready to work towards pre-season,” he said.
“I’ve been doing runs and trying to keep fit in the days I’ve been back in the country. I’ve managed to keep myself in a shape where I can build from here.”
