Joe Mattock says that he did not take long to decide on a move to Rotherham United.
The 25-year-old defender found himself looking for a new club after being released by Sheffield Wednesday, and Rotherham were quick to announce their interest in signing him.It was a move that appealed to Mattock as soon as he heard of it and he is pleased to have got his future sorted so rapidly.
“It’s come about pretty suddenly really,” he said to the club’s official website.
“My agent got in contact with me about two weeks ago and told me that Rotherham were interested in signing me. My first thoughts were positive because I’ve been up north in Sheffield for the past few years.
“I’m really excited to have met the manager now and excited to see how things go in the future.”
The Millers finished 21st in the Sky Bet Championship table last term, in what was their first season back in the division after promotion from League 1.
Mattock believes that the squad have the ability to finish in a more lofty position next time around and he is optimistic about their chances of success.
“The Championship is a tough league and it’s getting tougher and tougher each year and it’s a good test for us,” he added.
“It’s a new chapter. Rotherham are a good side who play some good football and have got some really good players, I’m excited to get to know them and see what we can do.”.
