Hartlepool United boss Ronnie Moore expecting tough challenge from Fleetwood Town

16 June 2015

Hartlepool United manager Ronnie Moore is expecting a tough test when his side take on Fleetwood Town in Round 1 of the Capital One Cup.

The pair meet in the first round of the competition and Moore is looking forward to testing his charges against a team from the division above.

“They couldn’t have made it much harder for us, could they?” he joked on the Pools' official site.

“It’s an attractive game because they’re a big club so we will look forward to it, which is what cup competitions are all about.

“It’s nice to go as far as you can in the cup for financial reasons but it’s difficult in this competition because of the seeding and the fact you’re going to end up playing a team higher up.

“Graham [Alexander, Fleetwood manager] has done a good job there and they’re a club with a little bit of money behind them so I don’t think they will be far off again next season in terms of looking for promotion.”

Fleetwood will go into the tie as favourites to make it into the next stage of the competition, with home advantage on their side.

It is something that their boss, Alexander, feels could be crucial in the match, but he is determined not to take their progression as a given when the sides clash during the week commencing 10th August.

“I am happy we are home in the first round,” Alexander said to fleetwoodtownfc.com. “It is good for the supporters.

“It is always exciting to find out who your opponent is going to be in the cup. It brings into focus that the new season is not far away.

“Hartlepool United finished last season strong and I am sure it will be very good game when we play them in August.”
