Milton Keynes Dons captain Dean Lewington is ready to lead his side's assault on the Sky Bet Championship after extending his contract at the club this week.
Lewington started for Milton Keynes in their first Football League fixture back in 2004, and their ever-reliable skipper has put pen-to-paper on a deal which will keep him at stadiummk for a further two years. After several years of going close to promotion, the Dons finally sealed a place in the Sky Bet Championship on a dramatic final day of the 2014/15 season.
Promotion was secured with a thumping 5-1 rout of Yeovil Town and Lewington - who scored twice in that success – is looking forward to the challenge that the Championship will bring.
Speaking to the club's official website, Lewington said: “There’s a lot of big teams and a lot of top-class grounds – we are all very excited about next season.”
And the left-back, who has made over 500 appearances for the Dons, is delighted that he is continuing his journey with the club as they embark on their maiden voyage in the second tier of English football.
“I’m extremely happy to be staying. I’ve always loved it here and always been really happy. It’s been a great partnership.”
