Barry Corr believes Cambridge United can challenge most teams in Sky Bet League 2 in 2015/16

3 June 2015

Barry Corr believes Cambridge United can expect to challenge most teams in Sky Bet League 2 next season, after joining the U's from Southend United.

Fresh from a League 2 Play-Off Final success with the Blues, Corr opted to switch to the Abbey Stadium, where he has signed a two-year deal.

The Irishman spent five years at Roots Hall, notching 63 goals in 185 outings, including the only goal of their Boxing Day encounter against Cambridge last term.

He becomes the latest new U's recruit, following the acquisitions of defensive duo Leon Legge and Mark Roberts, and midfielder Keith Keane.

With that in mind, Corr is relishing what the future holds and is raring to go for 2015/16.

He told the club's official website: “It is certainly exciting times for the Cambridge fans and there is something good happening here, and I’m delighted to be a part of that now.

“The players the club have signed already are three top quality individuals at this level and I’m especially happy that I don’t have to play against the two centres-halves again next season, because I’ve had some decent battles with them both before.

“I think the calibre of player that the manager [Richard Money] and Jez George [Chief Executive] are bringing in is really good, and we’ll certainly be challenging most teams in the league with a very competitive squad.

“I’ve played at the Abbey Stadium before and always found it to produce a great atmosphere; the fans are obviously very passionate so I’m looking forward to getting out in front of them.

“I have had 10 days off since finishing in the Play-off Final with Southend but now I’m really looking forward to the start of the season.”
