Andy Williams the perfect fit for Paul Dickov's Doncaster Rovers

19 June 2015

Paul Dickov is confident that new signing Andy Williams will fit in instantly, after bringing the striker to Doncaster Rovers on a three-year deal.

Williams had a sensational campaign last term for Swindon Town, scoring 22 goals in all competitions as the Robins reached the Sky Bet League 1 Play-Offs, and the Rovers boss is confident he can bring that form to the Keepmoat Stadium.

Despite a 13th-placed finish, Doncaster were among the Play-Off chasing pack for much of the season, only finishing eight points off the top six, and the Scotsman believes Williams' goals could be the difference this time around.

“Andy coming here is absolutely fantastic. I’m buzzing. He is a striker whose movement is exceptional and a player that is so, so composed in front of goal,” Dickov told the club's official website.

“That was something that was missing last season and if we had that, I believe we would have finished in the top six. To have this calibre of player, a player who knows what it takes to get in to those Play-Off positions and to stay there is huge for us.”

Dickov had to reportedly fight off a number of suitors for the striker, but Doncaster's style of play last season left an impression on Williams,, and the 42-year-old boss believes his new recruit will fit in well with the current squad.

“When Andy came here to look around, he commended the style of football that we played when we faced Swindon last season,” Dickov added.

“His movement will compliment what we already have and the style of play our midfielders create. Andy will integrate well into this side, he will fit in nicely.”
