Andreas Weimann confident of promotion after joining Derby County

19 June 2015

Andreas Weimann is confident that Derby County can get promoted from the Sky Bet Championship this season, after penning a four-year deal at the iPro Stadium.

Weimann joins Derby from Aston Villa and the Austrian international is keen to return to playing Premier League football as quickly as possible.

He becomes Rams boss Paul Clement’s fourth addition of the summer, following the arrivals of Scott Carson, Darren Bent and Alex Pearce, and the 23-year-old is optimistic the squad that is being assembled is strong enough to challenge at the top of the table.

“I’m excited to be here and I’m looking forward to the new challenge,” Weimann said to the club’s official site.

“Derby has plans to be successful and get promoted and that’s what attracted me here; I want to be part of that.

“The opportunity to play first-team football and drive the team to promotion is something that I want to do.

“With the set-up here and the players we have – and those that we are looking to sign – I feel that we have a good chance to get promoted.”

Weimann may be stepping into a fresh environment, but he is not unfamiliar with every member of his new side’s team.

The forward played with Darren Bent at Villa and he is excited to link-up with the England international once again.

“I know Darren from my time at Aston Villa and I think that he is a really good signing for Derby,” he added.

“I haven’t spoken to him about the club as I guess he is away on his holiday at the moment and I didn’t want to disturb him.

“He did really well on loan here last season and wherever he plays, he scores goals.

“I am not shocked that he did so well at Derby and I am sure he will score loads of goals next season as well.”
