Adam Murray looking for Mansfield Town to make their mark against Sheffield Wednesday

16 June 2015

Adam Murray is relishing the challenge of facing Sheffield Wednesday when he takes his Mansfield Town side to Hillsborough in Round 1 of the Capital One Cup.

Mansfield travelled to South Yorkshire at the same stage last season to face Wednesday's rivals, Sheffield United, where they slipped to a 2-1 defeat, and Murray has set his sights on making things difficult for the Sky Bet Championship outfit when the game takes place in the week commencing 10th August.

“We faced one of the Sheffield teams last year and it was a good occasion, so we’ll be looking to go and make our mark on the game and try and progress in the competition,” said Murray, speaking to the club's official website.

“It’s a good tie for us and a big game. We’re all looking forward to it. It’s nice to play against a big club so early on in the season and it’ll be good to gage ourselves against them.”

With the Owls recently parting ways with head coach Stuart Gray, a new man will be at the helm for Wednesday – something which the Stags boss believes could increase the pressure on his opponents.

Murray added: “I think it’ll be exciting. If it does work out that it’ll be their new manager’s first home game then I imagine there’ll be a big crowd and it’ll create a good atmosphere for our boys.

“Going into the new season it’s another game where we can look forward to and go and express ourselves with all the pressure being on them.”
