Adam McGurk wants promotion in first season with Portsmouth

24 June 2015

Adam McGurk wants to help Portsmouth get promoted as quickly as possible, after signing with the Sky Bet League 2 side.

The striker has penned a two-year deal at Fratton Park, following the expiration of his contract at Burton Albion, and he has already been struck by the stature of his new team.

“What attracted me was the size of the club and the large crowds that come to watch the game,” he told the club’s official site.

“I’ve played against Pompey a few times and I’ve always been struck by how fantastic the fans have been, despite a difficult few years.

“They stick with their side, even when they’re not winning. That’s always impressed me and my team-mates.

“This club belongs in a higher division and now we have to make sure that happens, so we need to gel as quickly as possible.”

Portsmouth have already been active this summer, bringing in a number of players, as new manager Paul Cook looks to shape his team.

Cook took over as boss at the start of May, after leaving Chesterfield, and McGurk believes that the 48-year-old will be able to get the best out of his squad.

“I’ve played against Paul Cook’s Chesterfield sides before. I liked the way they approach the game and also how much they wanted to play for him,” he added.

“When I sat down to talk to him, I could see how much passion he has and I wanted to be a part of that.

“I’m excited for the new season. It’s been a stressful few days getting the deal done, but now I’m looking forward to getting down to work and bonding with my new teammates.”
