Adam Barrett remains hungry after penning Southend United extension

8 June 2015

Adam Barrett insists he remains hungry and wants to play a big part for newly-promoted Southend United in Sky Bet League 1 next season.

Barrett re-signed for the Shrimpers from Gillingham in January, having previously spent six years at Roots Hall earlier in his career.

He made 13 appearances in the second half of last season, taking his overall tally for Southend to more than 300, and his most recent outing came at Wembley in their Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final success against Wycombe Wanderers.

“I'm delighted and really pleased to put pen to paper for another year. I'm looking forward to next year already.” the 35-year-old told the club's official website.

“It's great to know where I'll be next season. It's been fantastic to come back and I want to be here a lot longer. I'm delighted to get the deal done and dusted and know where I'm going to be.

“I always wanted to stay in some capacity. I still have a lot to offer and I remain hungry. I think I proved I can still do it and the fire's in the belly again. There was interest elsewhere but this was the only place I ever wanted to be. I want to play a big part next season.”
