Abu Ogogo ready for new experience with Shrewsbury Town

1 June 2015

Shrewsbury Town's new signing Abu Ogogo is ready for life in Sky Bet League 1 after sealing a move from Dagenham & Redbridge.

Ogogo made 35 appearances for Dagenham as they finished 14th in Sky Bet League 2 last term and the versatility man clearly caught the eye of Shrews boss Mickey Mellon, who has signed the midfielder on a two-year deal.

After featuring in over 250 games for the Daggers as well as captaining the club since 2013, Ogogo now feels the time is right for a fresh challenge.

"I was at Dagenham for six years and thought it was time in my career that I moved on. It will be the first time I've moved away from home but it will be a good experience,” the 25-year-old told Shrewsbury's official website.

"I've been to Shrewsbury a few times and came up and met the manager and the chairman. There were a few clubs involved and I wanted to take my time and make sure I made the right decision.

"After having a chat with the manager, I went home, thought about it and feel I have made the right decision.”

And Ogogo, who was on the books at Arsenal as a teenager, is looking forward to playing on a higher stage when the 2015/16 season gets going.

"There's big teams in League 1 like Millwall and Sheffield United," he added. “There's a little bit of a break for a few weeks but then I'll be ready to come back for pre-season."
