Abdenasser El Khayati says he is looking forward to life in Sky Bet League 1 with newly promoted Burton Albion. The Dutchman has signed a new two-year deal with the Brewers, following his successful spell at the club in the second half of last season.
El Khayati has pointed to manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as one of the key reasons in his decision to stay, and says he has a close relationship with the 43-year-old.
“I am very happy to be here for another two years," he told the club's official site.
“To work again with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is important for me. He was one of the reasons I chose to stay here.
“Everybody knows that I arrived in the middle of the season and I needed one or two weeks to get settled on and off the pitch and it was all because of the gaffer and the coaches who helped me.
“He speaks with me off the pitch as well which is really important for me.”
Following Burton's successful campaign last term, El Khayati has now set his sights on helping them push even further up The Football League, and wants to produce more high-quality performances in a yellow shirt.
“For me the most important thing is to perform again even when it is a level higher,” he added.
“I have the ambition to play higher. The next step is League 1 and I have to do it again, and be even better.”
