Barnsley boss Lee Johnson has revealed his delight at securing what he believes to be a 'great signing' in Alfie Mawson. The defender shone in Sky Bet League 2 last season whilst on loan at Wycombe Wanderers from Brentford.
The Sky Bet Championship Bees had offered Mawson a new deal, but the 21-year-old opted to join Barnsley.
"He's a great signing for us. One that we've tracked all summer as a club. We've made sure we've done everything right.
"We're delighted really considering the competition we had. I think it shows a statement of our intent.
"It's an easy sell because we've got good facilities, we've got a good, young groups and the fans are fantastic.
"It shows the character of the boy - the fact he wants to come here when he's had more lucrative offers. It shows what he's about. It's not about playing because he backs his ability wherever he goes. That's what you do as a footballer."
