Wesley Atkinson keen to kick on after signing Notts County deal

22 July 2015

Wesley Atkinson is determined to kick-on after earning himself a one-year contract with Notts County.

The young defender has become the Magpies 15th signing of a hectic summer, after he impressed on trial with the Sky Bet League 2 club.

Atkinson had been training with County from the start of the summer and, now that his future is secured, he is eager to make an impact at Meadow Lane.

“I’m delighted, obviously,” the 20-year-old said to his new club’s official site. “I’ve been here for a while now, arriving on day one of pre-season and I’ve worked hard to get myself a deal and now I’ve got one, so I’m really happy to sign here and kick on.

“Pre-season has been tough, it’s a new environment for me, with a new group, but the lads have helped and welcomed me and I feel at home here.

“I’ve played a lot of my football at West Bromwich Albion in their under-21 side and [Head of Recruitment] Guy Branston was watching games and I found I was going to be released, and he worked hard to get me here.

“I’m happy Guy brought me back here and I’d like to thank him for pursuing me. He believes in me and he knows I’m a good player.”
