Jon Stead reveals unexpected influence in his move to Notts County

3 July 2015

New Notts County signing Jon Stead says the club's chief scout Guy Branston was key in luring him to Meadow Lane.

Branston was well travelled as a player in The Football League between 1997 and 2014, and looks to have played a big part in bringing the 32-year-old to the Magpies.

“The move came through a lot of pestering from Guy Branston," Stead told Notts County's official website.

"I had a lot of good chats with him and I remember him as player and I didn’t want to let him down.

“We kept in touch and had a few things lined up, but it felt like the right time and the club is showing great commitment to get on the right track and I wanted to be part of it.

“Guy told me about the project and the club moving forward, first of all getting back into League 1 and kicking on from there.

“And speaking to the manager and hearing his philosophy, I’m interested to see, and the manager made it clear I was wanted here.”

Stead was on loan at Sky Bet League 1 outfit Bradford City last season, and now joins County following his release from parent club Huddersfield Town.
