Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s contract extension proves Charlton Athletic’s ambitions – Guy Luzon

22 July 2015

Guy Luzon believes that Charlton Athletic’s ambitions have been highlighted after Johann Berg Gudmundsson signed a contract extension at The Valley.

The Icelandic winger has penned a deal which keeps him at the London club until 2019.

And Luzon believes that Gudmundsson’s proven commitment is an indication that the 24-year-old has bought into the Addicks’ long-term aims.

“Everyone knows Johann is a player with a lot of quality who brings a lot to our team,” Luzon told Charlton’s official site.

“He had just one year left on his contract so I’m very happy that he has committed to us for his long-term future.

“It shows that he believes in what we want to achieve here. Now we can look forward to continuing to enjoy his ability at The Valley.”

Gudmundsson finished as runner-up in Charlton’s Player of the Season award in what was his first season in England last term.

The former AZ Alkmaar man scored 11 goals during his maiden campaign in the Sky Bet Championship, and he is hopeful that he can be even more successful this time around, after securing his future.

“It feels really good,” Gudmundsson enthused.

“We've been talking about it for a few months. Now it's done I can concentrate on my football and help the team to a good start in the Championship.

"We want to build a squad for the future and I'm a part of that.

"Now we know that the football club is serious about what we want to do."
