Gareth Ainsworth highlights importance of loan market after re-signing Michael Harriman

13 July 2015

Gareth Ainsworth believes the loan market will be vital again for Wycombe Wanderers, after securing the services of Michael Harriman until the end of January.

Ainsworth signed a number of players on a temporary basis last term, including Alfie Mawson, who was one of the stand-out players in The Football League in 2014/15, and it paid dividends as the Chairboys enjoyed a fine campaign.

They made it all the way to the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final only to lose to Southend United in dramatic fashion, but Ainsworth believes they can have another successful season if they use the loan market well.

"The loan market was crucial for us last year and it will be again, due to the small size of our squad,” the manager said, to wycombewanderers.co.uk.

“If we can bring in a few more players of Michael's calibre then I'm confident we can have another good season.”

Full-back Harriman returns to Wycombe on loan from Queens Park Rangers having played for the Adams Park outfit during the 2012/13 campaign, when he appeared 20 times.

He has enjoyed temporary stays with Gillingham and Luton Town since, and Ainsworth is delighted to have the defender back in his squad.

He added: "I've kept a close eye on Michael ever since his first spell with us and always been impressed with the way he goes about his game.

"He can play in a number of positions, he's got great talent on and off the ball and you always know you'll get 100 per cent effort and commitment from him.”
