Alex Baptiste optimistic after Middlesbrough switch

7 July 2015

Alex Baptiste is looking to get back on track at Middlesbrough, after penning a three-year deal with the Sky Bet Championship outfit.

The 29-year-old admits that his last permanent move, to Bolton Wanderers, didn’t work out as he had planned, but he believes that his time on Teesside will be far more enjoyable.

Baptiste has already trained with his teammates, and he says that the session that Aitor Karanka put on has already got him excited for his future at the Riverside Stadium.

“It’s a new start for me, it didn’t quite work out at Bolton,” the defender told Middlesbrough’s official site. “I had a fantastic year [on loan] at Blackburn Rovers last season and my challenges are always the same.

“I’m really happy to be here, the first training session was proper intense – it was brilliant. So like I say, I’m really happy and hopefully I can do well here.

“Monday was my first day here so the nerves were kicking in and the training was different to Bolton so I was nervous as well as all the other lads.

“It’s a new environment and moving up here from where I live now is a completely fresh challenge for me and it’s one that my family and I are really looking forward to.

“I give 100% every game and I’m an honest lad. That’s me in a nutshell. I’ll try my hardest for the squad and be good around the place!”
