Slavisa Jokanovic salutes Watford team display

18 January 2015

Manager Slavisa Jokanovic praised Watford's all-round team performance after the Hornets comfortably overcame Charlton Athletic 5-0 at Vicarage Road.

Goals from Craig Cathcart, Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo put the hosts in command by the interval, and they scored twice more after the break through Ighalo again and Daniel Tozser.

"I must be happy with our performance, I must be happy with our team is working, I must be happy with how we played compact, I must be happy with how we are pressing in the last five minutes of the game," Jokanovic said.

"The result isn't always important if you're working together, if you are compact and if you have a small distance between the lines. If we can compete we can lose or draw or win the games, but if I must lose a game I prefer it this way."

The Hornets' strike pairing of Deeney and Ighalo scored three of the goals, but Jokanovic refused to single out individuals for their performance.

"This is not important for me - I speak about the team," he said. "It's not Troy Deeney and Ighalo - they played very well but all the team played very well. It's not a question about one player or two players.

"I repeat to you - I am very happy my team is pressing two minutes before the end of the game. This is why they played a good game. It is not only about these two players - they scored the goals, they're fighting with us, they'll always be with the team and this is what we need."
