Sky Bet League 2 round-up

17 January 2015

Shrewsbury Town were the big winners in Sky Bet League 2 as they beat bottom club Hartlepool 3-0 to close the gap on top two Wycombe and Burton.

Andy Mangan bagged a brace either side of a James Collins strike as the Shrews ended a run of three games without a win in emphatic fashion.

Table toppers Wycombe came from behind to draw 1-1 at Bury, with Fred Onyedinma levelling after Danny Mayor had put the Shakers ahead.

It was the same scoreline and a similar scenario at Fratton Park as Darragh Lenihan struck in the 82nd minute to earn Burton a point after Jed Wallace had put Portsmouth in front.

Down at the other end, Dagenham & Redbridge dropped into the relegation zone alongside Hartlepool after losing 1-0 at Northampton, with Ricky Holmes getting the crucial goal.

Carlisle recovered from conceding a first-minute Adebayo Akinfenwa strike to climb above the Daggers with a 3-1 win at AFC Wimbledon, with Sean O'Hanlon, Steven Rigg and David Amoo all on target.

Tranmere also moved up thanks to a 3-0 home win over Accrington, with Rory Donnelly bagging a brace for Rovers and Shamir Fenelon also netting.

Cameron McGeechan struck twice and Sullay Kaikai and Liam Hughes also netted as Cambridge crushed Newport 4-0, while Andy Drury scored the only goal of the game as Luton won 1-0 at Plymouth.

Exeter came from behind to prevail 3-2 at Mansfield, with Alex Nicholls grabbing the winner with an 83rd-minute penalty after Tom Nichols and Scot Bennett had also struck for the Grecians.

Southend also rallied to edge out Oxford United 3-2 at the Kassam Stadium, with Barry Corr settling it late on, despite his side being down to 10 men following the dismissal of Gary Deegan.

Adam Marriott and Thomas Pett were on target as Stevenage secured a 2-0 victory at York.
