Bradford City centre-back Rory McArdle has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for December.
McArdle has been an uncompromising presence at the heart of a Bradford defence which conceded just one goal in four games.Strong in the tackle, powerful in the air, he showed a striker’s touch for his goal against Scunthorpe United - an exquisite 18-yard curler.
Bantams manager Phil Parkinson said: “Rory has been in impressive form throughout this season and, along with the rest of our back four, has been a key component during our recent unbeaten run.
“Along with his tenacious displays at the back, Rory has also helped chip in with a goal or two at the other end this season, including his brilliant finish against Scunthorpe.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “It’s a true testament to Rory McArdle that he refuses to take the credit for Bradford’s recent defensive solidarity, but it is clear that he has been a calming presence over his team-mates over the Christmas period.
“On top of this, he earned his side a draw when he curled home against Scunthorpe.”
Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Bradford’s experienced centre-half has hit a strong run of form, helping the Bantams to a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
“He was at the heart of three brilliant performances as they registered clean sheets in four Sky Bet League 1 games in December.”
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
