New Year: New Career for Football Fans

6 January 2015

Football fans reassessing their career as the New Year gets underway have a great opportunity to improve their prospects by signing up to a unique new business degree, tailored just for them

The BA (Hons) Business Management (Sport & Football) uses a range of football scenarios and themes as a means to teach the principles of business. The degree, which is undertaken primarily via distance learning, has been devised by The Open University in partnership with The Football League Trust.

Mike Evans, Director of Operations at The Football League Trust, comments, “Naturally the new year is a time when many people reassess their future as they return to work from the Christmas break. People may think about a new start, moving up the career ladder or working towards their dream job. For football fans this degree provides a great opportunity to do all of the above.”

The degree allows students to select specific business, management, training and sports modules to match their career ambitions with intriguing themes such as the economics of football, motivation, team effectiveness, and strategic management.

Mike continues, “People learn best when they are interested and passionate about the subject. So using football, which inspires passion among millions of people, is a great way to teach the principle of business.

“The degree could even open up a career in the business side of football. However, first and foremost this is a business management degree, so it is relevant for wide range of industries and sectors.”
