AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley has been named the Sky Bet League 2 Manager of the Month for December. His team enjoyed a festive December with three wins from four games, scoring a division-leading nine goals and adopting the free-flowing approach Ardley favours.
The highlight was a 4-1 win over promotion hopefuls Exeter City.
George Burley, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, said: “December was an excellent month for Neal Ardley and AFC Wimbledon as they won three of their four matches, scoring nine goals in the process, including a fantastic 4-1 home win against Exeter City who have been playing very well.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Ardley’s attack-minded style gives his players the freedom to express themselves and this approach paid dividends in December.
“The partnership between Matt Tubbs and Adebayo Akinfenwa has been an extremely fruitful one for Ardley this season and whilst thrilled at his team’s progress, he will be disappointed to see Tubbs leaving.”
Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Wimbledon are edging their way towards Sky Bet League 1, the Dons harbour the support of the football family and despite FA Cup defeat to Liverpool, Ardley’s men are flying up Sky Bet League 2.
“Three wins in December coincided with Adebayo Akinfenwa discovering his best form.”
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Manager of the Month is chaired by former Ipswich Town manager George Burley, along with Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
