There were 26 goals in six Final Third Development League Cup ties, with Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town and Hull City recording crucial victories.
Final Third Development League Cup - South Group AMilton Keynes Dons went joint-top of Southern Group A with a convincing 3-0 win over Gillingham on Monday night.
Tom Hitchcock opened the scoring for the Dons after 25 minutes at stadiummk, and then assisted Giorgio Rasulo's strike midway through the second-half. Mark Randall netted late on to make it 3-0 and ensure his side went level with AFC Wimbledon at the summit.
Luton Town and Brighton & Hove Albion contested a goalless draw at Kenilworth Road to remain level on points with each other in the table. The Hatters' regular first-teamer Alex Lawless played 45 minutes on his return from injury.
Final Third Development League Cup - South Group B
Plymouth Argyle and Portsmouth battled out an enthralling 3-3 Docklands Derby draw in this week's only Southern Group B fixture.
Two Argyle goals from Tyler Harvey and one from Marvin Morgan put them ahead three times in the match, but rivals Pompey responded through a brace from Bradley Tarbuck and a Lewis Gill strike.
Final Third Development League Cup - North Group B
Huddersfield Town leapfrogged Rotherham Untied at the top of Northern Group B after they recorded a 3-0 victory against an experienced Millers side.
Two Jake Charles goals either side of a Joe Wright finish saw the Terriers to a comfortable three points, as they took a giant step towards qualifying from the Cup group stages.
Final Third Development League Cup - North Group D
Nine of the 26 Final Third Development League goals this week came in an astonishing game between Wigan Athletic and Morecambe, with the Latics prevailing 5-4.
Morecambe took the lead in the opening seconds through Padraig Amond, only for his goal to be cancelled out by Declan Poole moments later. Jack Sampson put the Shrimps back ahead but two quick-fire goals from Joey Johnson and Matty Hamilton gave Wigan the upper hand at the break.
Alex Cvetkovic made it 4-2 to the Latics early in the second half but neither side was willing to roll over, as Amond netted his second of the game for Morecambe.
Aaron McGowan looked to have rescued a point for the Shrimps on 89 minutes when his deflected shot nestled in the back of the net, however Poole netted once more for the Latics in added time to seal the points in a scintillating contest.
Final Third Development League Cup - North Group C
Hull City recovered from a 2-0 deficit to beat Hartlepool United and give themselves some breathing space in second place in Northern Group C.
Brad Walker and Connor Smith had given Pools a healthy advantage in the first half, but Hull's Matty Dixon gave them a lifeline with 20 minutes of the game remaining.
Two goals in a matter of minutes from Karim Rossi then completed the Tigers' turnaround, putting them three points clear of their opponents in the group standings.
