Final Third Development League digest

9 January 2015

This week featured Final Third Development League wins for Wigan Athletic, Rotherham United and Luton Town.

Final Third Development League - South Division

Luton Town maintained their unbeaten league record in the South Division after they beat Bournemouth 2-1 in dramatic circumstances.

Ross Lafayette had given the Hatters the lead shortly before half-time, but the home side were soon level through full-back Callum Buckley. Charlie Walker then won it for Luton in added time to wrap up their fifth victory in seven league games this season.

AFC Wimbledon were also victorious after they beat Leyton Orient 3-1 at the Moatside Stadium.

Tom Beere marked his return from injury with two goals either side of a George Oakley strike for the Dons, who have now recorded three successive development league wins.

Final Third Development League - East Division

Rotherham United were the big winners in the East Division after they triumphed 2-0 against Hull City to go joint-top of the table.

Goals from Matt Derbyshire and Jerry Yates secured all three points for the Millers, who earned their first win in three league outings.

Elsewhere, Burton Albion scored a last-gasp equaliser against Hartlepool United at St George's Park, as Mark Shelton's cross was deflected into the Brewers' net.

Darren Holden had opened the scoring for the Pools, but the stalemate means they are now without a win in five.

Final Third Development League - West Division

Two goals from Wigan Athletic’s Joey Johnson sent them top of the West Division with a 3-1 win against Wrexham in their first outing of 2015.

The Welsh side had taken the lead thanks to regular first-teamer Louis Moult, but their advantage lasted just four minutes as Johnson pulled the Latics level, before sealing the victory in the second half.
