Swindon Town's Massimo Luongo named Asian Cup Player of the Tournament

5 February 2015

Swindon Town's Massimo Luongo was named the Player of the Tournament at the Asian Cup after he scored the opening goal in Australia's final win against South Korea.

The 22-year-old, who has impressed for the Robins in Sky Bet League 1 this term, was a stand-out player throughout the tournament, as the Socceroos beat Oman, Kuwait, China PR and United Arab Emirates before overcoming South Korea 2-1 after extra-time in the final.

Luongo scored the first goal of the final, which was the first time Korea conceded at the Asian Cup, with a powerful finish from 25 yards. That, along with his performances in the other matches, saw him pick up the Player of the Tournament crown.

The midfielder only made his international debut last year but has forced his way into the starting XI as one of the most promising young Australian, and Football League, talents.
