Slavisa Jokanovic relieved with win for Watford

25 February 2015

Slavisa Jokanovic acknowledged Watford were more comfortable after they had the cushion of a second goal in their 3-0 victory against Rotherham United.

Despite leading 1-0 at the break after Odion Ighalo had capitalised on a mistake from Kari Arnason, the Hornets had struggled to raise their game for large parts of the first half.

But once Troy Deeney had added a second in the 54th minute, the Hornets went for the jugular and quickly added a third when Ighalo netted his second after Adam Collin had failed to hold a Miguel Layun shot.

"It was a complicated game for us, especially after the first 45 minutes when we weren't particularly happy," Jokanovic admitted.

"After the second goal, everything started to be easier for us, we scored one more and we could have scored more, so I must be happy with our performance."

The Hornets head coach changed formation from a 3-5-2 to a 4-3-1-2 for the Millers and explained: "We tried to find a solution for the direct game which Rotherham want to play and we have problems playing against this style.

"We tried with taller players and a different structure and we kept a clean sheet. This is not easy for us."

Ighalo's double means he has now scored 14 goals in his last 10 Sky Bet Championship outings and Jokanovic once again praised the ongoing impact of the Nigerian striker.

He said: "Everything he touches is finishing in the net and he is helping us so much.

"He is an important guy for us at this moment, he really is. It's his mentality. He's always working hard and whereas he was in my second plan, now he's demonstrated to me he can be starting for Watford and scoring many goals."
