Sky Bet League 2 leaders Burton Albion slip up

24 February 2015

Burton Albion moved to the top of Sky Bet League 2 table after cruising to a 3-1 win at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Sky Bet League 2 leaders Burton suffered a first defeat in 14 games as they were beaten 1-0 at in-form Accrington Stanley.

Josh Windass, son of former Hull City striker Dean, scored his first professional goal from 25 yards to earn Stanley a third win in four unbeaten games.

Phil Edwards had Accrington hearts in their mouths at the death but his header cleared the crossbar.

Tranmere Rovers blew the chance to ease their relegation worries as Ryan Taylor scored two goals in the last eight minutes to help Portsmouth to a 3-2 win.

Rovers, who could have moved six points clear of the bottom two with a win, took the lead against the run of play in the 28th minute as Jennison Myrie-Williams drilled a left-foot shot into the bottom corner.

It was 2-0 early in the second half as a cross from the right came off Kayode Odejayi, hit the goalkeeper and was helped over the line by a defender.

Portsmouth, who thrashed Cambridge United 6-2 away from home last Saturday, pulled a goal back in the 76th minute through Craig Westcarr, who had only been on the pitch for five minutes.

It was 2-2 after 82 minutes when Taylor volleyed in after Matt Tubbs' shot had been blocked, and the same player sent the Fratton Park crowd into raptures with a winner three minutes later, heading in a corner to make it four wins from five for Pompey.

Both Cambridge and AFC Wimbledon missed penalties as the game ended goalless.

Adebayo Akinfenwa missed the Dons' penalty moments after half-time when he was denied by goalkeeper Chris Dunn after Josh Coulson had fouled Adebayo Azeez.

The home side were awarded their own spot-kick in the 59th minute when Ryan Donaldson's shot was handled by Sammy Moore, but James Shea kept out Robbie Simpson's powerful effort.
