Sky Bet Football League Team of the Week

23 February 2015

We pick out 11 top performers and a manager from the week's Sky Bet Football League matches.

Goalkeeper: Marco Silvestri (Leeds United)

Middlesbrough laid siege on the Leeds United goal after going behind to an early Alex Mowatt strike on Saturday lunchtime, but they could not find their way past Silvestri, who made several fine stops to hand the Whites a fifth win in six.

Defender: Jake Buxton (Derby County)

The centre-back headed home two equalising goals for Derby at the weekend as they fought back for a 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday which saw them return to the top of the Sky Bet Championship table.

Defender: Frederic Veseli (Port Vale)

The Italian defender struck the second goal at a wet and windy Vale Park, firing home from 35 yards against Doncaster Rovers. Vale went on to win 3-0, recording their second successive clean sheet.

Defender: Inigo Calderon (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Right-back Calderon was handed the opportunity to play in an advanced position by manager Chris Hughton and the decision paid dividends with the Spaniard netting two goals on his 200th appearance for the club.

Midfielder: Alex Pritchard (Brentford)

Pritchard put in another fine display as Brentford recorded a 3-1 win over Sky Bet Championship promotion rivals Bournemouth. The Spurs loanee scored his seventh goal of the season with a long-range free-kick, before teeing up Chris Long for the third goal.

Midfielder: Ben Reeves (Milton Keynes Dons)

The midfielder was the man of the moment as the Dons cruised to a 3-0 win over Peterborough United. The 23-year-old bagged a brace with two fine left-footed efforts, as they moved within two points of Bristol City at the top of Sky Bet League 1.

Midfielder: Jed Wallace (Portsmouth)

Wallace put in a dazzling performance as Portsmouth hit Cambridge United for six. The midfielder opened the scoring for Pompey, and set up three more as Andy Awford’s side doubled their goalscoring tally on the road this season. A special mention must go to Matt Tubbs, who took home the matchball after firing home a hat-trick, but Wallace was the star of the show.

Midfielder: Alex MacDonald (Oxford United)

The winger grabbed his first goals for Oxford since joining the club from Burton Albion in January. The brace put the U’s on their way to a comfortable 3-0 victory against Mansfield, and that result saw them leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Striker: Lewis Grabban (Norwich)

Grabban hit two goals for Norwich in their comfortable 3-0 victory at fellow Play-Off hopefuls Watford. Manager Alex Neil described the performance as the best away from home since he took charge.

Striker: Benik Afobe (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

The Wolves striker was in fine form again, netting a brace as his side romped to a 5-0 win over Rotherham United. It’s now five goals in seven for Afobe, who also set Nouha Dicko up in the rout.

Striker: Reuben Reid (Plymouth Argyle)

Plymouth’s top scorer Reid netted three goals for the Pilgrims in the Devon derby at Exeter City. The victory against their rivals sealed a fourth successive win for John Sheridan's men and Reid now has 15 league goals this term.

Manager: Dean Saunders (Crawley Town)

Despite having 10 players missing, Saunders guided his struggling Crawley side to a 2-1 win away at Sky Bet League 1 high-flyers Swindon Town. The victory was their second in succession - the perfect response to their 5-0 thumping at the hands of Doncaster Rovers a fortnight ago.
