Sky Bet Football League Team of the Week

16 February 2015

We pick out 11 top performers and a manager from the week's Sky Bet Football League matches.

Goalkeeper: Alex Smithies (Huddersfield Town)

The Huddersfield stopper was in fine form as the Terriers visited high-flying Bournemouth at the weekend. Despite going a goal down early on, Smithies made a number of superb saves to keep his side in the game, and he was rewarded when team-mate James Vaughan netted a second-half equaliser.

Defender: Alan Dunne (Millwall)

Struggling Millwall picked up an impressive win at Birmingham in midweek, with skipper Dunne nodding home the only goal at St. Andrew’s to bag the Lions three crucial points in their bid for Sky Bet Championship survival.

Defender: Andy Butler (Doncaster Rovers)

Doncaster moved to within a point of the Play-Offs this week after successive clean sheets in Sky Bet League 1. Saturday’s 3-0 win over Yeovil was preceded by a 5-0 drubbing of Crawley Town in midweek, in which centre-back Butler grabbed the opening goal.

Defender: Peter Hartley (Plymouth Argyle)

Plymouth’s Play-Off push is back on track after three successive wins and three clean sheets in Sky Bet League 2. Hartley has been at the heart of the defence in all, and even got on the scoresheet as the Pilgrims defeated Wycombe in midweek.

Midfielder: Bradley Dack (Gillingham)

Dack struck twice in five days to help his side pick up six points from a tough couple of fixtures. The 21-year-old scored in Tuesday’s success at Peterborough, and followed it up by netting in the 4-2 triumph over high-flying MK Dons.

Midfielder: Alex Mowatt (Leeds United)

After celebrating his 20th birthday on Friday, Leeds' Mowatt made it a weekend to remember by netting a stunning free-kick to steal all three points against Millwall a day later.

Midfielder: Yan Klukowski (Newport County)

Versatile Klukowski showed his prowess in front of goal to earn the Exiles three points at Wycombe, scoring twice to end Newport’s five-game winless run against a fellow promotion hopeful.

Midfielder: David Martin (Stevenage)

Martin volleyed home the opener for Stevenage against Hartlepool at the weekend, before turning provider later in the game. A special mention must go to Ben Kennedy, after the 18-year-old went on to net a brace in just his third Football League appearance.

Striker: Daryl Murphy (Ipswich Town)

It was a great week for Murphy and Ipswich as the Tractor Boys recorded two 2-1 victories in five days, with the striker netting three of the four goals to take his tally to 21 for the season.

Striker: Matt Done (Sheffield United)

Done also hit three goals as Sheffield United picked up maximum points from their latest two fixtures. The January signing from Rochdale scored in the win over Colchester, before bagging a brace as the Blades inflicted just a second defeat of the season on Sky Bet League 1 leaders Bristol City.

Striker: Izale McLeod (Crawley Town)

Crawley bounced back from a 5-0 midweek defeat to hit five of their own against Barnsley. McLeod helped himself to a hat-trick in the 5-1 romp, which took him to 15 goals in all competitions this season.

Manager: Justin Edinburgh (Gillingham)

It has been the perfect start for new Gills boss Justin Edinburgh, who has picked up maximum points from his first two games in charge. The ex-Newport manager oversaw a 2-1 win against Peterborough in midweek, before his side disposed of MK Dons four days later, and they now sit just two points off the final Play-Off position in Sky Bet League 1.
