Tranmere Rovers striker Rory Donnelly has been named the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month for January.Donnelly’s three goals in as many starts eased Rovers away from the relegation zone with wins over Accrington Stanley and Exeter City.
Calm in front of goal and with quick feet, he has made the loan transition from Swansea City look easy.
Tranmere manager Micky Adams said: “I’d like to congratulate Rory on winning the award, it’s not a bad start in your first month in League football.
“I’m sure Rory would be the first to pay tribute to his team-mates and the role they all played in helping him win the award.
“It’s a credit to the hard work being done by everyone at the club that one of our players has picked up the trophy.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “After a disappointing loan move to Coventry last season, Donnelly has taken full advantage of his switch to Tranmere, bagging three goals in three starts in January.
“His goalscoring record in Northern Ireand was fantastic and it looks like with confidence restored he may be starting to replicate that form in Sky Bet League 2.”
Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “An unbeaten month in The League has seen Tranmere start to move away from the danger of relegation and show some better form.
“The addition of Donnelly as a striking option has been a big help. Tranmere fans will be hoping this form will continues and he helps them secure their place in Sky Bet League 2.”
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Manager of the Month is chaired by former Ipswich Town manager George Burley, along with Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
