Derby County boss Steve McClaren believes his players deserve credit after they fought back from 3-1 down to claim a point at Rotherham United on Tuesday. The Rams went in at the break level at 1-1 but the Millers scored two goals within 10 minutes of the restart to take control.
Tom Ince and Darren Bent found the net in the second half to earn Derby a share of the spoils, though, and McClaren labelled it a ‘great’ comeback.
He told Rams Player: “That was not us for the first hour of the game, both individually and collectively, all over the park.
“We didn’t match up to Rotherham’s intensity but the players showed plenty of character.
“I thought we were going to go on and win it when we equalised, but nevertheless, it was a great comeback.
“When I put the three players on and we were 3-1 down, I thought that it was a defining moment of the season and in the end, with how we finished, it could prove to be a big point for us.”
The point moved Derby back into the automatic promotion places in the Sky Bet Championship, above Middlesbrough on goal difference, but Boro are in action on Wednesday when they visit Birmingham City.
