Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 25 preview

31 December 2015

Battles at both ends of Sky Bet League 2 are finely poised as the season moves into the New Year.

Plymouth Argyle lead the way going in to 2016, and they will make the unusual trip to Ewood Park for their first game of the New Year, to take on Carlisle United, while four of the bottom five lock horns in Matchday 25.

Here are the Sky Bet League 2 fixtures in full, all with a 3pm kick-off.

Bristol Rovers v Luton Town
Cambridge United v AFC Wimbledon
Carlisle United v Plymouth Argyle
Exeter City v Dagenham & Redbridge
Mansfield Town v Accrington Stanley
Newport County v Hartlepool United
Northampton Town v Barnet
Notts County v Oxford United
Portsmouth v Crawley Town
Stevenage v Leyton Orient
Wycombe Wanderers v Morecambe
Yeovil Town v York City

With Carlisle's Brunton Park still unplayable after the floods in Cumbria, Ewood Park is the latest destination for a home fixture, where they take on table-topping Plymouth.

The Cumbrians are going well in League 2 themselves, sitting seventh with two games-in-hand on the majority of teams above them, and this promises to be a cracker.

Northampton are Plymouth's nearest challengers, and they host Barnet at Sixfields.

Things are tight at the other end of the table too, with six points separating the bottom five clubs. Four of those meet this weekend - Yeovil Town host York City, while Newport County welcome Hartlepool United.

The other team in that pack are Dagenham & Redbridge - one of four clubs who begin 2016 without a permanent manager at the helm.

The aforementioned Yeovil are another of those sides, the other two are Luton - who go to in-form Bristol Rovers - and Notts County, who departed with Ricardo Moniz earlier this week. The Magpies face off against third-placed Oxford.

Elsewhere, Play-Off chasing Portsmouth and Wycombe have home fixtures against sides in the bottom half, Leyton Orient and Wimbledon are on the road at Stevenage and Cambridge respectively, and Mansfield host Accrington Stanley.
