A late winner from Carl McHugh saw Plymouth Argyle return to the top of Sky Bet League 2 in time for Christmas.
The Pilgrims had gone four games without victory to slip to third, but a 2-1 win at Hartlepool United saw Derek Adams and his troops climb back to the summit.Northampton Town and Oxford United both slipped to 2-1 defeats - against Portsmouth and Wycombe Wanderers respectively - and they remain in the automatic promotion places. That win for Pompey means they are now unbeaten in six and just three points off of top spot.
Bristol Rovers notched a third successive win to move into the Play-Off places, while Accrington Stanley are now six games without defeat after a draw at Stevenage, and Carlisle United were emphatic 3-0 winners over Notts County at Preston North End's Deepdale ground.
York City brought a seven-game losing streak to an end with a 2-1 triumph over Morecambe to clamber out of the bottom two, which is occupied by Yeovil Town - who grabbed a good point at Leyton Orient - and Dagenham & Redbridge.
Elsewhere, there was drama at Exeter City, where Luton Town began life without John Still in dramatic fashion - scoring a 100th-minute winner to end a streak of three successive losses.
