The top three all tasted success on Matchday 24 in Sky Bet League 1, meaning Walsall top the pile going into 2016.
The Saddlers beat Peterborough United 2-0 at home, while second-placed Burton Albion saw off Swindon Town 1-0 and Gillingham in third beat rock-bottom Colchester United by the same scoreline.Crewe Alexandra, Oldham Athletic and Fleetwood Town are alongside the U’s in the bottom four after they all lost.
The Alex went down 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury Town, Oldham lost by the same scoreline against Doncaster Rovers and Fleetwood suffered a 3-1 reverse against Wigan Athletic at Highbury.
That result lifted the Latics up to fifth, taking advantage of Peterborough’s loss.
The Danny Wilson era at Chesterfield arguably ended in disappointment, although they did take a point against Coventry City. The Spireites held the lead until late closing stages, when James Maddison equalised for the visitors.
