Southampton and Liverpool meet in the fourth and final match of the Capital One Cup Quarter-Finals, in a match to be screened live on Sky Sports.

On Tuesday night, Manchester City, Stoke City and Everton all advanced over Sky Bet Championship opposition, and now the winner of this all-Premier League clash will complete the Semi-Final line-up.

Six League Cup encounters have taken place between the two sides over the years, including a meeting in the inaugural competition back in 1960/1961 - the Saints emerging victorious on Merseyside.

However, the most recent clash in the competition came during the 2002/03 campaign, and it proved to be a good omen for Liverpool.

The Reds ran out 3-1 winners at Anfield in Round 3, and went on to lift the Cup in March, defeating arch-rivals Manchester United at Millennium Stadium.

The two sides have already locked horns once this season, battling out a 1-1 draw at Anfield, and Saints boss Ronald Koeman believes home advantage at a sold-out St. Mary's on Wednesday night could drive his team into the last four.

"It's always nice to play at home and to get the support of the fans,” Koeman told the club's official website.

“I think the team needs at this moment after two defeats and hopefully it will be a great atmosphere in the stadium and that we beat Liverpool – it will be a perfect day then.”
