Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke revealed his delight after seeing Matty Taylor score a 12-minute hat-trick against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday,The goals took Taylor's tally for the season to 12, making him the second-highest marksman in Sky Bet League 2, and Clarke was quick to praise the striker's potency in front of goal.
Speaking after the game, Clarke told GasPlayerHD: "He did fantastically. He's a lad that's high on confidence.
“He's had dry spells since he's been at the football club and it shows his character that he bounces back to go on scoring runs.”
The win puts the Gas within two points of the Play-Off places, and after securing their third home win of the season, Clarke is now hoping to turn the Memorial Ground into a fortress.
"Any win is an important win, but it was pleasing and hopefully it's a platform for us to kick on with our home form. In the second half the game opened up and we made the most of our chances."
After a cagey first half, Taylor put his side ahead on the hour mark before adding two more by the 72nd minute, and the 25-year-old was surprised by the quickfire nature of his hat-trick.
"I'm delighted with my hat-trick, but more delighted we've got the three points. We're all happy in the dressing room. I wasn't really looking at the clock, I knew it was fast, but not that fast."
