Winning Walsall face out-of-form Blackpool in Sky Bet League 1

28 August 2015

Walsall’s Sky Bet League 1 match against Blackpool this weekend sees two sides at the opposite end of the form table meet.

The Saddlers go into the game riding the crest of a wave, having won their last five matches in all competitions.

Dean Smith’s side are stationed in the automatic promotion places in the embryonic Sky Bet League 1 table, and have made an extremely impressive start to the new campaign.

Their season started with a 1-1 draw against Oldham Athletic but, since then, they have brushed aside all challengers.

They picked up an extra-time victory over Sky Bet Championship outfit Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup and have not looked back since, dispatching Southend United, Rochdale and Coventry City to put themselves among the early pace-setters in the division. They also knocked Brighton & Hove Albion out of the Cup in midweek.

On Saturday they will be bidding to win their opening three away games for the first time since 2000/01, when they went on to earn promotion from Division Three via the Play-Offs.

Contrastingly, this term has not started in the way that Blackpool fans would have been hoping for.

The Tangerines have stumbled out of the blocks, having failed to win any of their opening five games.

That means it is now 22 games and 200 days since Blackpool last tasted victory, with their winless run carrying over from last term.

Will Blackpool’s wait for three points be ended at the weekend, or will Walsall continue their fine form? Find out by following our match updates on Twitter via @SkyBetLeague1.
