Sky Bet League 2: Match Round 1 preview

7 August 2015

We look ahead to Match Round 1 in Sky Bet League 2, with 12 games all kicking off at 3pm on Saturday to start the new season in style.

Supporters have been eagerly anticipating this day since the 2014/15 campaign came to a close, and the wait is now over.

Match Round 1 fixtures

Here’s what the fixture computer produced for the opening round in Sky Bet League 2:

Accrington Stanley v Luton Town
AFC Wimbledon v Plymouth Argyle
Bristol Rovers v Northampton Town
Cambridge United v Newport County
Exeter City v Yeovil Town
Hartlepool United v Morecambe
Leyton Orient v Barnet
Mansfield Town v Carlisle United
Oxford United v Crawley Town
Portsmouth v Dagenham & Redbridge
Stevenage v Notts County
Wycombe Wanderers v York City

Barnet and Bristol Rovers return to The Football League from the Conference and they start against Leyton Orient and Northampton Town respectively.

The Bees, who won the non-league crown last year, are away at Orient, who are managed by their former boss Ian Hendon - that will certainly add an extra edge to the fixture.

Rovers, meanwhile, host Northampton, whose last four visits to the Memorial Stadium have proved fruitless.

Elsewhere, Exeter City and Yeovil Town will celebrate the life of Adam Stansfield at St. James Park.

The striker, who played for both Exeter and Yeovil during his career, died of bowel cancer in August 2010 and the opening-day match on Saturday has been dedicated to him.

Notts County are much-changed going into the new season having made 18 signings since relegation, and they are at Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage.

Crawley Town are the other new team in the division, alongside the aforementioned clubs - they start at Oxford United.

Defeated Play-Off Finalists from last term, Wycombe Wanderers, host York City, while Plymouth Argyle, who lost out in the semis, take on AFC Wimbledon.

New bosses to make dugout debuts

Teddy Sheringham and Ian Hendon aren’t the only managers making their dugout debuts this weekend.

Mark Yates (Crawley), Derek Adams (Plymouth) and Paul Cook (Portsmouth) will also watch over their new teams for the first time in The Football League.
