Sky Bet League 1: Weekend preview

21 August 2015

There's no let-up in the Sky Bet Football League with another full schedule of matches in Sky Bet League 1 coming up this weekend.

All 24 clubs were in action in midweek, but there's not much time to rest as they go again on Saturday afternoon.

Here are the Sky Bet League 1 fixtures for Saturday, which all kick-off at 3pm:

Saturday 22nd August

Barnsley v Bradford City
Burton Albion v Peterborough United
Chesterfield v Rochdale
Crewe Alexandra v Bury
Fleetwood Town v Colchester United
Gillingham v Wigan Athletic
Oldham Athletic v Shrewsbury Town
Port Vale v Doncaster Rovers
Scunthorpe United v Millwall
Sheffield United v Blackpool
Southend United v Swindon Town
Walsall v Coventry City

Coventry are the only side with a 100 per cent record in Sky Bet League 1, and they make the short journey to Walsall to try and continue their flying start.

The Sky Blues have less than 30 miles to travel to the Banks' Stadium, and teenage hotshot Adam Armstrong – on loan from Newcastle United – has been in fine form with five goals in his first three games for the club.

There are three fixtures this weekend that mark a milestone with Crewe and Bury, Oldham and Shrewsbury, and Port Vale and Doncaster all meeting for the 50th time.

Southend United celebrated their 60th anniversary at Roots Hall on Thursday, and they will hope to mark the occasion with three points when Swindon visit this weekend.

Elsewhere, Gillingham and Wigan meet for the first time since 2004/05 and have an identical head-to-head record after 32 meetings. Will one side take bragging rights, or will the pair produce just the seventh draw in the fixture's history?

Bradford visit Barnsley seeking a first league victory at Oakwell since 1999, while Fleetwood are looking to register their first points against Colchester, after losing the only two prior meetings last season.

Chesterfield and Rochdale are fifth and fourth respectively in the table, and they lock horns at the Proact Stadium.

Spireites fans might be worried when looking at the appointments list, but there is no need to fear – it's not the Rochdale manager taking the whistle for the match, it is in fact his namesake, Football League referee Keith Hill!
