Sky Bet Championship: Matchday 4 review

22 August 2015

Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion continued their strong starts with victories on Matchday 4 of the Sky Bet Championship.

Ipswich became the first team to score past Preston North End this season when Brett Pitman netted his first goal for the club. Preston equalised through Daniel Johnson, but Ryan Fraser's superb curling effort kept the Tractor Boys at the summit.

Brighton overcame Blackburn Rovers with Kazenga LuaLua scoring his third goal of the campaign, and they join Ipswich as the only other club on 10 points.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time to help Charlton Athletic climb to third, and that wasn't the only late goal on a dramatic day in the division.

Fulham and Bolton Wanderers both grabbed points in the closing stages of their games against Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest respectively, while it was an early goal that did the damage at the Riverside, where Bristol City picked up a first win of the season thanks to an eighth-minute Joe Bryan effort.

Birmingham City and Derby kicked off the action with a 1-1 draw on Friday night, a result matched on Saturday lunchtime by Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday.

The Sky Bet Championship weekend was rounded off in Wales, where Cardiff City overcame Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 thanks to Kenwyne Jones and Sammy Ameobi.
