Sky Bet Championship: Match Round 3 midweek preview

18 August 2015

The first midweek clashes of the new Football League season take place over Tuesday and Wednesday, with 11 Sky Bet Championship fixtures in store.

Brighton & Hove Albion's win at Fulham on Saturday means they are the only Championship side with a 100 per cent win record heading into Match Round 3.

Match Round 3 fixtures

Here are the midweek fixtures in the Sky Bet Championship (kick-off 7.45pm unless stated):

Tuesday 18th August

Blackburn Rovers v Cardiff City
Derby County v Middlesbrough
Huddersfield Town v Brighton & Hove Albion
Ipswich Town v Burnley
Milton Keynes Dons v Bolton Wanderers
Nottingham Forest v Charlton Athletic
Rotherham United v Preston North End

Wednesday 19th August

Bristol City v Leeds United
Hull City v Fulham
Sheffield Wednesday v Reading
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Queens Park Rangers

One of the glamour fixtures in Match Round 3 of the Sky Bet Championship is Derby County versus Middlesbrough at the iPro Stadium.

The pair were among the big hitters in division last season but neither experienced success - the Rams missed out on the Play-Off places and Boro marched all the way to the Final, but lost out to Norwich City.

Their seasons have started indifferently this time around, with Derby yet to pick up a win and Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough having won two of their opening three in all competitions.

Like Derby, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City are both seeking their maiden wins of the campaign, and the pair meet on Tuesday.

Rovers have registered just the solitary point so far, in a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield, while Cardiff City have shared the spoils with Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.

The aforementioned Huddersfield are also in search of a first victory of the season, and they welcome the only team in the Sky Bet Championship to have won their opening two games, Brighton & Hove Albion. The two have drawn in each of their last four clashes over the last two years.

Ipswich Town host Burnley at Portman Road, with both sides having endured unbeaten starts to league life in 2015/16. The Tractor Boys posted their first win with a 2-1 triumph over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, while Burnley have come back from behind in both of their opening matches, against Leeds United and Birmingham City, to steal a point.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Milton Keynes Dons play Bolton Wanderers for the first time in their history at stadiummk, Rotherham United face Preston North End, and Nottingham Forest and Charlton Athletic go toe-to-toe at the City Ground, with each side having recorded 14 wins apiece in the history of the match-up.

Wednesday sees an additional four Sky Bet Championship matches being played, with Bristol City looking to get off the mark against Leeds United, who've drawn their first two.

Recent history is stacked against City, who have not registered a win over the Whites since a League Cup victory in 1997 - losing all of their last six meetings.

Hull City lock horns with Fulham, while Sheffield Wednesday entertain Reading, and Wolverhampton Wanderers play their second home match in four days, as Queens Park Rangers go to Molineux.
