Sky Bet Championship: Match Round 2 review

16 August 2015

Brighton moved to the top of the Sky Bet Championship after scoring a dramatic late winner to beat Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Sam Baldock had put the Seagulls in front, only for Tom Cairney to fire the hosts level before the break. However, Kazenga LuaLua was brought down in second-half stoppage time, and Israeli striker Tomer Hemed converted from the spot to maintain a perfect start for Chris Hughton's side.

Middlesbrough brushed aside Bolton Wanderers 3-0 to earn their first three points of 2015/16, while Brentford came from behind twice to overcome 10-man Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Preston North End extended their unbeaten streak against Milton Keynes Dons to nine games as the newly-promoted pair locked horns at stadiummk, with Paul Gallagher scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 triumph.

In the early kick-off, Matty Taylor came off the bench to score a superb free-kick and ensure Burnley and Birmingham City shared the spoils, while the evening game produced the same scoreline – 2-2 – as Cardiff City came from two goals down to earn a point at Queens Park Rangers, courtesy of a spectacular effort from Scott Malone.

On Sunday, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Hull City played out a 1-1 draw, while Reading and Leeds United also took a point each, after a 0-0 stalemate.
