Coventry City and Southend United played out a 2-2 draw in an entertaining Sky Bet League 1 clash on Monday night.Three points would have sent Coventry up to second in the division, and they went ahead after 34 minutes when Southend failed to clear a corner and Reda Johnson slammed home.
However, with half-time approaching, the visitors turned the game on its head with two quick-fire goals. Noel Hunt scored his first goal for the club to equalise and the Shrimpers were then awarded penalty just moments later, which David Mooney duly converted.
Coventry had the chance to level things up when they earned a second-half spot-kick, but Jim O’Brien saw his effort saved by Dan Bentley, who would continue to thwart the hosts throughout.
Bentley was beaten by a Sam Ricketts header with 72 minutes gone as the Sky Blues tied the match but, despite a late onslaught, they couldn’t find their way past the 22-year-old again and had to settle for a point.
