Paul Clement insists he was pleased with Derby County’s performance on Tuesday, despite a win eluding him at the fourth attempt in all competitions.Derby drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough, with Johnny Russell’s late strike cancelling out Kike’s first-half goal, and Clement felt a point was the least his side deserved.
The draw against Boro leaves Derby still in search of their first three points of the new campaign, but the former Real Madrid assistant is adamant that a victory is on the horizon.
“I think the equaliser was justly deserved for how hard the players pushed,” he told the club’s official site.
“Middlesbrough were so hard to break down because they sat deep and were very compact.
“I think we were rewarded with our perseverance and Johnny took his goal well. We didn’t have too much time to go and get the winner after that but we ended strongly.
“I’m pleased for the players, they deserved at least a draw, but they are disappointed because they want to win games.
“If we keep playing like we are we’ll get the results we deserve. I’m confident that the victory isn’t too far away.”
